Summer’s here and that means we all need one thing: smooth, exfoliated skin that’s hydrated. A guide for how to achieve smooth skin for summer that’s bronzed and glowing using clean beauty products.
We’ve all been there: staring at our rough skin wondering how you’re gonna make it glow during the summer. For the record, please put down the baby oil and protect your skin responsibly with sunscreen. Today’s post is all about how to get your skin and ready for summer by exfoliating, hydrating, and bronzing!
How to Prep Your Skin for Summer
Exfoliate
Ever notice an ashy appearance to your skin? Those are dead skin cells that your body needs help removing. You can moisturize, but those dead cells will still be there after your next shower if you don’t manually remove them. Luckily it’s an easy fix.
This Sugar Body Scrub in Lemongrass is divine! The packaging is luxe as are the texture and the crisp + clean lemongrass scent! I’ve used other sugar scrubs before where the sugar just dissolves right away. This brown sugar scrub is extra gritty while being gentle at the same time. Plus, the sugar doesn’t dissolve easily, increase the amount of exfoliation. The almond oil helps nourish and hydrate, too.
If you’re on a budget, I’ve written about a DIY Sugar Scrub in the past, but the Beautycounter one just can’t be beat.
Hydrate
After exfoliating you want to make sure you hydrate your skin by moisturizing and also sealing in that moisture. There are several clean hydrating options in this post, but my favorite are the Melting Body Balm and the Body Oil in Citrus Rosemary.
The Melting Body Balm has argan and avocado oils that just melt right into your skin! And the naturally-derived scents? Pure heaven. It literally smells like vacation. The body oil has 13 oils in it, and a good way of incorporating it is by adding just a few drops into your favorite clean moisturizer.
If you have very dry skin, a body moisturizer you may want to try is the Body Butter in Citrus Mimosa. Like the Melting Body Balm, it provides lots of hydration, but this one smells like citrus. A popular option is the Countermatch Adaptive Body Moisturizer, since it will adapt to your skin’s hydration needs throughout the day. One application lasts me two days!
Bronze
Lastly, to provide a healthy glow to your skin, you have safer options other than baking in the sun. It’s preferable to get a spray tan than a sunburn. There aren’t many clean formulations for self-tanner out here, but I am thoroughly impressed by BeetTan Sunless. They’ve created a beet-juice based sunless tanner, and they also offer sunless spray tans.
Beautycounter introduced Countersun Tinted Mineral Sunscreen with SPF30 that’s like a temporary spray tan in a bottle. I love that it hides my T-shirt and yoga pant tan lines while protecting my skin. It’s like foundation for your body but better!
For nighttime glow + hydration, the Glow Shimmer Oil is perfect! Just like the name suggests, the subtle hint of bronze shimmer helps your skin glow. It’s perfect for special occasions like summer weddings where we’re baring a little skin.
That’s it, friends! Safer beauty doesn’t mean products that don’t perform. Let me know if there are any issues you need help finding solutions for! I’m happy to help!
