Who’s a procrastinator? Well, we are. That and I just cringe at the thought of an expensive costume that I’ll only wear for a few hours tops. #aintnobodygottimeforthat. Here’s a simple last-minute Halloween costume idea for a couple that loves to be comfy while having fun!
I actually got the idea when I was watching TV (and your momma told you that it would rot your brain!). All you need are a few items from Walmart or Target, and about 3 hours while the fabric paint dries. Totally worth it, gets a few laughs from people, and one of the most comfortable costumes ever. No-brainer!
DIY Salt + Pepper Shaker Couples Costume
What you’ll need:
- 1 long-sleeve white shirt + white scrub pants
- 1 long-sleeve black shirt + black scrub pants
- 1 4oz bottle of silver metallic fabric paint
- 1 foam brush
- 1 t-shirt form cardboard (or scrap of cardboard)
- 2 grey hats
- 1 pack of heavy duty black velcro, self-adhesive circles
- hair dryer (to speed up paint drying), optional
Directions
Find a flat surface, like a table, and place the cardboard insert inside the t-shirt. Shake the paint well before opening.
Draw the outline of your letters. Make sure you draw the right letter on the right shirt: S-salt on the white shirt, P-pepper on the black. This was the hardest thing for me to remember!
Fill in the outline of the letters (carefully, one at a time) with a continuous drizzle of fabric paint. Remember, less is more.
Using the edge of the foam brush, lightly spread the paint inwards. Use the corner for the curves of the P and the S. The thinner you spread the paint, the faster the letters will dry. You can see I used too much paint for the letter S. I had to use a hair dryer for that one.
Carefully lay the first t-shirt on a bed to dry. Start on the other shirt. Allow about 3 hours for ample drying. (Use a hair dryer if necessary.)
Start on your hats. This is by far the easiest part of this costume, and pretty self-explanatory. I chose to use 4 black velcro circles as the seams of the hat wouldn’t allow for a fifth. We used winter hats, but would have totally used a fedora if I had the time to look for one.
Once I put on the hat, however, it didn’t look right on me. I guess I don’t have the right head shape for this because I looked like a moron. So I thought on my feet and remembered I had this flower hair clip. A little aluminum wrap later and…
Voila! Instant feminine salt shaker top. Easy right?
Here are the costumes laid on the bed. Can you tell what they are?
This is by far the easiest, last-minute Halloween costume ever. We were warm walking around in the cold weather, and boy were those scrubs comfortable!
Have a Happy Halloween!
