Blogtember Day 6: Describe a distinct moment when your life took a turn.
I wish I could say I’m not going to go with the obvious answer with this prompt, but I am. Today I’m going to talk to you about the day I met my husband. If this isn’t your cup of tea, I encourage you to continue reading, because the thoughts that ran through my mind on that fateful night weren’t the typical thoughts that run through a young woman’s mind.
You see, I’ve always been a romantic. I always expected that ommm feeling when I met The One. Well, people, it doesn’t always happen like it does in the movies. It’s actually quite disappointing not having your own theme music playing in the background where ever you go. I digress. On our first date, B and I had never met face-to-face. We had communicated via e-mails, texts and phone calls. Right off the bat, I was impressed by his writing skills. Intelligence was always on “the list” of necessities for a significant other.
The night that we met I was held up in a university performance event. The university was celebrating an anniversary and Comcast was supposed to deliver fireworks. They took forever to set those things off. What was supposed to be a dinner date ended up being a late dinner. 10pm. Looking back, I’m lucky that he kept the date since he had just spent a whole week in the Midwest for work and had flown in earlier that day. (Bonus points for B).
When I finally met with him that night, I remember thinking Well, this is different. We talked, and we talked. The conversation flowed freely. This is a first. A date where, not only are we having a great conversation, but the guy actually seems normal. Too good to be true.
Then, I had a weird déjà vu moment. The waitress had sat us at a table for four. My purse sat on the chair next to mine, whereas B’s chair was empty. All of a sudden, a split-second vision flashed in my mind. I saw a young girl, under the age of ten, sitting in the empty chair next to B. Not only that, but the little girl was a blonde.
Whoa, whoa, WHOA there! What is this?! Was this a ghost? Could this mean…he’s the future father of my children? Get the heck outta here! And a blonde kid? Wtf? I love a good science fiction story but this was a bit of a stretch. And then, as quickly as that image came, it disappeared. I looked down at my cell phone’s time, and was shocked to see it was already midnight. I could have sworn we had only been chatting for 30 minutes or so. Weird.
We exchanged the It was nice meeting you and I had a good time pleasantries, hugged, and each drove our separate ways. I honestly thought he wasn’t interested in pursuing anything further with me. It wasn’t until a few days later when my best friends asked me about the date that I gave it more thought. When I told them that the date was different and I couldn’t explain why, they both exchanged a look of mischief that spoke volumes. That’s when I knew. I had something different on my hands.
It was the date that changed it all.

Wow, that is pretty crazy! Maybe it was a sign : ) I wrote today that I had a weird feeling before my first date with my now-hubby – I definitely didn’t know anything for sure, but I certainly have a feeling. Maybe life leaves us lots of little clues that we won’t understand until later in life, or maybe in the afterlife!

This gave me major goosebumps! I love the story, especially that you saw a girl next to him for a split second.

LOVED this! Totally a believer in signs. This was like the first chapter of a really good book you’re about to read in one night… I want more!!

Oh I LOVED reading this – it gave me chills!! I agree with Ange in the comment above, your wrote it so well it was like reading a book – tell us more!!! :) Thank you for sharing your story, I often think back to when I met Chris – I remember being introduced and shaking his hand and in that second, there was just something and it felt different. I remember that moment like it was yesterday, it’s funny how at the time you have no idea how significant / life changing such a small thing can be.
You always have the best photos, this one is just magical! :)

Aw, what a sweet story! How bizarre you saw a blonde haired girl? By the looks of it, you guys would be having a brunette for sure!

So what happened?? What did it meeeeeean???? Haha.
Great story. You are so right about meeting “the one.” True story – I was smoking a cigar (I know, terrible for my voice) on my best friend’s new husband’s parent’s lawn in Massachusetts (far from TX!) when I officially shook hands with my husband.
Lisette says
Haha. We don’t have kids yet. But if the first kid comes out a blonde, I’m gonna freak out!

I am a total sucker for love stories, especially how we met stories. The part where you describe your vision is incredible and so bizarre.

This is the cutest thing ever! I love hearing how couples met. I feel like you really do know early on if someone is the one – esp in your case how you said things were just ‘different.’ I am so happy you found that love :) xo
Renata says
That was an incredible story. You two seem to have a real connection. I love hearing about the way in which lovers meet. I guess I am a bit of a romantic myself. And, I totally agree with you, there should definitely be music for every moment of your life.
xoxo

Thanks! He’s definitely my “lobster.”
Janna says
Our story is super similar! I didn’t even know we were on a date, but I knew that our “first date” was different than any other when I told my girlfriends all about it. Now we will just have to wait and see if you have a blonde child. Haha
