They say change is inevitable. The world keeps changing all around us and it behooves us to keep up. Sometimes, change in our immediate lives is a harder pill to swallow, but change is necessary in order for growth. After five years of blogging and much deliberation, with countless attempts of new names and coming up empty, I finally made the inevitable jump and did a major overhaul of my online identity. I have renamed my blog.
Goodbye, Northern Belle Diaries.
Hello, La La Lisette.
What originally started out as a tongue-in-cheek play on “southern belle” quickly lost its steam. However, the initial blog name stuck for so long thanks to one really viral blog post (currently over 1.2 million shares on Pinterest). The complications of changing domains is what kept me from earnestly pursuing the endeavor.
There is far more work in updating social media and all of your revenue channels than in changing domains. Thanks to the excellent hosting at Siteground, and my experience with web-design and blog migrations, ensuring that old traffic would redirect was a total breeze. I also found this checklist extremely helpful, in addition to reading through Google’s tips on moving a site with URL changes.
Do you remember your very first e-mail address? I don’t know why people don’t have some sort of IQ test administered before they come up with e-mail addresses. (Mine was super cool like “sugarplumfaerie,” in case you were wondering). Just like the cheesy, embarrassing e-mail address most people outgrow in a matter of weeks, Northern Belle Diaries never truly felt like me.
However, La La Lisette is a nod to my love of singing. My name is, well, my name and it is a part of me. You can find me on new social media handles on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. I am still working with Facebook on renaming the page (they really make this difficult, FYI) so for now, that handle will still have my old blog name.
I will forever be interested in a wide variety of topics, so “niche blogging” doesn’t seem to be in the cards for me. I don’t like to be limited in what I talk about on this space, but expect more beauty and personal style posts. As I said in a previous post, taking care of my health and fitness has expanded into other forms of personal care, and beauty and clothes (much to the chagrin of my wallet) falls right in line with this.
Thank you for stopping by, and please don’t mind the dust as it settles here.
Have you rebranded your blog or business? What did you find the most difficult?
