Two years ago we walked into our very first home, exhausted from the move but very happy nonetheless. Since then, we have done our best to transform this house into a home. From painting the living room, to transforming a bedroom into an office, learning how to #shelfie, grooming the landscape, and more. Slowly but surely it became a home.
Between Brian forgetting his house keys when he left the house, to me juggling two leashes and my phone when walking the dogs, locking the front door was a hassle. One of the first steps we took to make our lives easier was purchasing a Schlage® Camelot electronic entry deadbolt for our front door. Schlage® products are available at Amazon.com and Build.com, as well as in retail locations including Lowe’s and Home Depot. Our keyless deadbolt lock was hands-down a brilliant purchase that we’re still thankful for each day. Over a year later, the battery is still going strong even while used countless times per day.
Schlage® door hardware can match the other finishes in your home to complement your home’s unique style and décor. Here’s one such transformation on our pantry door.
While the Satin Brass & Gold doorknobs are all the rage for the boldest trend-setters in interior design, brass doesn’t work with the finishes in our home. Our kitchen cabinets are a dark mahogany, which lends well to the farmhouse & country chic style. Our home’s design isn’t quite as focused on one particular style as Brian loves everything ultra modern and I gravitate more towards glam. The bright chrome is a perfect marriage of the two. The bright chrome helps reflect light in our dark hallways while cheering up the space!
The Schlage® Sacramento hall and closet hardware comes in both the privacy lock and hallway latch. When I placed my order I wasn’t sure how I would deal with right-handed versus left-handed doors but I hoped that the knobs were reversible. In lever handles, the preference is that the curved lever points downward as it is the most comfortable, ergonomical way to open a door. In this post, I’ll walk you through how to do just that. It’s easy! I promise!
How to Install Reversible Doorknobs
What You Will Need
- Philips screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- Schlage® Sacramento hall and closet door lever
Directions
First, lay out all of the components of your new Schlage® hardware. Make sure none of the specified items are missing from the instruction sheet.
Remove your old hardware, including the strike plate.
Start with the exterior knob. All of my Schlage® privacy lock hardware came configured for right-handed doors. Our powder room happens to have a left-handed door, meaning you open it with your left hand.
The Sacramento lever should point down. Below is the interior knob, however, the lever is “upside down.”
Our end goal is to have the lever facing towards the hinges, except we want the lever to be gliding down for comfort.
One of the components of the Schlage® hardware is a little pin that fits in a tiny hole just behind the knob. The purpose of the pin is to release the handle from the latch inside. Just jiggle it in, and once the handle comes away about 2mm from the base, you can safely remove the pin and gently separate the handle from the base.
Set the separate pieces aside for a moment, as you prepare to do the same to the other side of the hardware.
Once you separate the second lever, swap the levers. Above, I am placing the correct lever on the hardware for the interior side of the door.
Below is the exterior handle for the left-handed powder room door all ready to install.
I know some prefer to have the screw holes on the outside of the door, but my preference is to not have them visible on the outside. If there’s ever an emergency, the pin can be used to unlock the door from the outside.
Isn’t she gorgeous? The curve of the Sacramento lever perfectly complements the curves of the faucet handles on our pedestal sink. I think I’m in love! What do you think? I can’t wait to finish installing the rest of the Schlage® hardware throughout our home!
No matter your personal style (or blended styles, as is in our house) there are hardware sets that will add a touch of Hollywood glam (or country!) to your home. To learn more about Schlage® and its product offering, visit www.Schlage.com.
