I loved our honeymoon in Italy. We spent 18 days there and hopped on Trenitalia (their railroad system) for most of our travels. Venice was one of those cities. Seeing it on television and being there in person is completely different. And even though we arrived there at night, the gondola was the FIRST thing we did. But boy, was it expensive!
We spent two nights in Venice at the Concordia, which is right in St. Mark’s Square. When there, you must visit St. Mark’s square. We enjoyed free outdoor entertainment, vino and pizza al fresco, and lots of people watching. There were so many high end stores in Venice that my head spun.
In front of St. Mark’s square are some of the famous gondolas. It was overcast, chilly and rainy when we were there, so not many people took gondola rides.
When in Venice, visit St. Mark’s Basilica. It is gorgeous and looks like it’s laden with gold on the interior.
At the altar lies St. Mark the Evangelist’s remains.
Behind the altar was a mural laden with precious jewels.
This tower has a replica at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas, NV. I can say I saw the original!
Before you book a stay in Venice, be sure to search online first.

Aww I love that you went to Italy for your honeymoon. Italy is my home…Napoli more specifically, since its the longest place I have lived anywhere. So I really loved reading this post. Anything about Italy and I will be hooked. ;)
