Are you ever self-conscious about the whiteness of your teeth? For the longest time, I wasn’t. People always say my teeth are super white. Maybe my it has to do with the fact that I’m tan year round (even more so now that we’re living in Florida) and my teeth look white in contrast to my skin? I’m not sure, but I have had people go out of their way to tell my teeth are white.
Ha! If they only knew half of it.
I’m a daily coffee drinker. Espresso coffee, to be exact. Viva Bustelo! (Seriously, the best coffee, hands down). Lately I’ve noticed that my bottom teeth have been getting heavily stained by my coffee. Even though you can’t see them when I smile, I can see the brown stains when I brush my teeth. My last dental hygiene appointment didn’t get those stains out, much to my dismay.
You guys. Nothing ages you more than brown teeth!
The picture above is from our honeymoon in Italy. We were in Rome beside the Trevi Fountain when this living statue just happened to put his hands on my head. I was so surprised that I could only smile. My husband snapped a picture of us to remember the moment. Ok, so you’re wondering that this has to do with teeth whitening. I’ll tell you.
See how white my teeth were? I had my teeth whitened using teeth whitening gel from a dental office. Not just any dental office. My husband’s aunt is a dental hygienist and she gifted me white teeth for my wedding day. I went in to her office, she made me bite into some icky goop to take my impressions, and a week later, she gave me my trays and whitening gel. I had super white teeth (but not like Ross’ comically white teeth from Friends) for my wedding day and for the following year.
Having received this treatment from a dental office, I was extremely skeptical of any online company offering lab-direct, custom-fitted teeth whitening trays and gel. However, Smile Brilliant! has the same teeth whitening ingredients as the dentist. (I called Brian’s aunt to check, and yep, 22% carbamide peroxide is the stuff in the whitening gel in her office). That’s when I knew I could trust Smile Brilliant! with my teeth. When I told them I had sensitive teeth, they let me know about their desensitizing gel. It’s a gel that you put on after you whiten and it reduces sensitivity after teeth whitening, containing fluoride.
I received my kit from Smile Brilliant! in the mail with lots of colorful pamphlets with tips on how to take my impressions. All in all, it was pretty easy (and fun!) to do. You mix the blue and white “dough” together until you can’t see stripes of color any more, softly press them into the mold, pop them in your mouth for 2.5 minutes a piece, and you mail them off. (You can see my the mold they made out of my impressions above. You won’t get these with your trays, but Smile Brilliant! thought it would be cool to share it with you).
I was afraid of my teeth hurting from teeth whitening so I spaced out my whitening a week apart. Wrong. For best results, it’s best to do it an hour a day for a week (or until the syringe runs out). B’s aunt confirmed this with me after I told her I wasn’t seeing results as quickly as I did when I whitened my teeth with her. As soon as I did it on a daily basis I continued to see improvement. I finished a few days after.
How were my results? See for yourself:
There were stains on my teeth that I hadn’t noticed before I whitened them, including on my eye teeth. It was a dreadful feeling realizing that my teeth really weren’t as white as everyone gave me credit for. However, now they’re pearly white just as when I had my teeth professionally whitened by the dentist. Even better, I didn’t have to go in and endure talking to a hygienist with my mouth full of goop :) Thank you, Smile Brilliant!
The team at Smile Brilliant! was nice enough to offer one of my readers the gift of beautiful, pearly whites. One lucky winner will win the prize of $139.95 store credit which equals one (1) set of Teeth Whitening Trays + 3 whitening gel syringes and 3 desensitizing gel syringes or the Teeth Whitening Trays + 6 whitening gel syringes. You may enter the giveaway here. (Giveaway is open only to those residing in the U.S.).
Even if you don’t win, I can tell you that $140 for a teeth whitening kit is a phenomenal deal…pennies on the dollar for what you’d pay at the dentist’s office. I am happy with my results and I happily recommend them!
