I’ve had enough. No more excuses.
I always wait until I see friends of mine in bikinis on Twitter and Facebook to actually care that I am roughly 30 pounds overweight. Okay maybe it’s more like 20 pounds overweight. You get the idea.
I don’t know why I let myself get to this point. It started with teaching. I stopped going to the gym because I honestly did not know what I was doing when I was lesson planning. Hours and hours of research and planning were spent on the couch. I lost motivation to work out. I started eating less healthy. Which led to more stress. Which in turn made me gain more weight.
After hurting my knee in a car accident last year, walking has been debilitating at times. And, cunningly, I have used that as a crutch. No more. I have a knee support band and brace coming in the mail. It has steel springs on either side of the knee for support, and ceramic powder in its fibers that reflects your body heat and provides natural pain relief; I highly recommend it. My mother-in-law gave me one that’s a little too big and slides down to my ankle. That has been my excuse. No more excuses.

That’s why last night I went out late at night to Walmart. Sorry folks but I don’t have a fancy Target near me. Walmart is all I got. I stocked up on tilapia, broccoli, mixed veggies, and Ziploc steamer bags. Oh, and no vegetable oil for me. Coconut oil is where it’s at. I’m also excited to make my baked pecan oatmeal and blueberries again!
I was in the best shape of my life when exercised and I ate like this. The Ziploc steamer bags are great for an easy personal meal in the microwave. I usually lump my seasoned tilapia in with the frozen veggies, and in about 2.5 minutes I have a healthy meal with no clean up. It doesn’t get better than that!
This time, I enlisted the help of blogging buddies Beth and Brin to help keep me on track using My FitnessPal. If you’ve never heard of it, download it! It’s a free app that helps you keep track of your exercise and calories (it has a neat calorie-index to take out the guess work!)
With my knee band I will be able to walk and jog (and hopefully use my Zumba DVDs again ‘cuz I got the Latin beat!). I have the weights that have been collecting dust in the hallway. Before you know it, I will be doing bicep curls using 40lbs on each arm! I can’t wait!
So, operation skinny has commenced. Wish me luck!
I wanna know, what do YOU do to get into shape!
