Yes. I am a liar. And I can’t even keep my lies straight.
Take for example this necklace I got from Fifth & Mae (which I still have to blog about!). When it came in, I told my husband I just got it “to review for the blog,” meaning for FREE. Then on our trip to Edisto Island last weekend I asked him “Can you believe I only got this for $10?” He caught me in the lie immediately. Busted! But hey, it was only under $20 so who cares?
Ok. So maybe that wasn’t a big fat lie. It was a little white lie. But sometimes I lie to myself and that’s not fair. Take for example, my 30 before 30 list. I compiled this list on my birthday last year…and I haven’t looked at it once. Not ONCE. I’m just terrible. Here’s the list with what I
have haven’t accomplished.
Read 25 books
Yeah, not exactly. But I HAVE read The Hunger Games trilogy. The series is amazing! It’s a must-read. I’ve also read the Fifty Shades of Gray trilogy, and The Mortal Instruments series (five novels with the 6th in the works for 2014). I haven’t seen the first movie, City of Bones, but I hope it stayed true to the book. I couldn’t put any of these down! Rachel has raved about Divergent so it’s my next book I’m picking up this Christmas. So, 11 out of 30? Meh. I’ll take it. Better than none. Any recommendations?
Design 30 blogs
Again, I aimed high, but I wouldn’t be a Phi Sigma Sigma if I didn’t! I’ve designed several blogs, some of which are listed in my portfolio on my design site, High Note Designs!
3. Attend a live Zumba class once a week
4. Save $500
5. Go to the symphony
6. Go to a live opera
7. Learn the title role of Verdi’s La Traviata
8. Learn the role of Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme.
Sing in an opera
This one I did. I sang the role of Gianetta from Donizetti’s Elixir of Love in a college production in 2007.
Go to a musical
This one I kinda of crossed off the list. If you watched the live broadcast of The Sound of Music last week with Carrie Underwood, then it counts. But holy heck, I should have paid to go to a local high school production of it instead. Enough said.
Attain 1,000 followers
Wow. I actually did this. I think I only had 200 GFC followers when I compiled these mini goals. I don’t count GFC followers anymore (as I’m on WordPress now) but I do have over 1,000 followers on Bloglovin. I’m so grateful!
12. Have a baby/Get pregnant
We can safely say this hasn’t happened. Or has it? Moving on.
Master 10 recipes I can fall back on any given night
I haven’t gotten 10, but I actually have a few. My Pasta with Pesto Chicken and Broccoli is my favorite. My husband’s favorite is Chicken Parmigiana and Sesame Chicken and Broccoli comes in second. We both love the Italian Rice Salad, Thai Chicken and Shrimp Coconut Curry soup and Curry Chicken sandwiches. Basically, anything in my recipes category are small accomplishments!
Learn how to make the perfect BBQ ribs
There’s a reason BBQ ribs aren’t in my recipes ;) I’m still working on this!
15. Drive to to Key West
16. Visit the Bahamas, or another Caribbean island besides the Hispanola
17. Visit all the tourist spots of my hometown, New York City
18. Fit back into my wedding dress
Operation Skinny has officially resumed! A knee injury leading to surgery hindered exercise. I have a month until the big 3-0 (and I don’t wanna think about it!). Do I think I’ll make it in 30 days? Not a chance, but I can work towards it, right?
19. Eat at Paula Deen’s restaurant here in Savannah
This is as close as I got to eating there. Ever since Paula Deen was dropped from companies, the lines outside disappeared. Also, the locals told me that the food isn’t all that great. Butter, anyone?
20. Take a cooking class
Can I swap that with a photography class?
21. Attend a jazz concert 22. Get a gig singing at a church again
I miss this. I really really miss this!
23. Read the entire Bible 24. Visit and explore Miami
25. Complete 10 Pinterest projects
26. Complete 10 new projects for others to pin on Pinterest
27. Master the elusive smokey eye technique
Get a DSLR camera
Take up photography as a hobby
30. Host a dinner party, complete with hors d’oeuvres and dessert
I got more done than I thought, but to be honest, I’m a little disappointed in myself. I thought I’d get more of these goals under my belt. To be fair to myself I only made this one year before my 30th, so it is what it is. A lot of these revolved around music, and I’ve taken a hiatus from performing. Now that the Christmas season is getting close to wrapping up, I’m going to look into working my voice into shape for auditions. But, one day at a time.
