The day we’ve been “dreading” is here. July 1, 2013. I say “dreading” because Bloglovin’ has all but smacked us upside the head with this fact: Google has done away with Google Reader today. (Did you receive BOTH of the overkill e-mails yesterday?) I’m not sure what to expect, honestly. Will people still be able to read blogs? Obviously, duh. Has the paranoia gone out of hand? I’m not so sure.
Google is famous for rolling out amazing products and then getting rid of them. Have you noticed that the “Followers” a.k.a. GFC gadget is no longer easily found? This happened IMMEDIATELY after they announced Google Reader was going away. It’s one of the reasons I came to WordPress and didn’t look back. The other? Google up and deleted one of my blogs. Also, Feedburner (which many of us use to deliver our feeds via GFC) has slowly whittled away to basic functionality. I don’t know about you, but after Google’s Blogger deleted my blog, I’ve lost trust in their products. I’m not feeling too confident about their Feedburner sticking around after Reader’s shut down. Personally, I’m toying with the idea of paying the nominal $1.49/month for Feedblitz per the recommendations of many bloggers. It’s free for the first 30 days. I’m trying it now, so I’ll let you know how it goes.
So, in order to help bloggers transition away from GFC as the main way to follow blogs, 15 weeks ago La La Lisette and Postcards from Rachel teamed up to host I Love Bloglovin’. I can’t believe it’s been that long already! Thank you so much for returning each week! Link up your Bloglovin’ account below to kick off our lives post-Reader.
First, please take a look at my lovely June sponsors. I’m a tad late in posting their giveaway (ok, ONE day!) but here are their lovely faces. Forgive me?
