While it may be too soon to pack for summer getaway trips, living in Florida means always being prepared for the beach. I tend to be forgetful with what I need to pack (anyone else?) and forgetting things I need brings about unwanted stress. With the ocean a mere 7 miles away from my house, I’ve learned that it’s prudent to always have a bag ready to go for an impromptu beach day.
1. Trusty Bag
I don’t spend too much money on bags, especially those that might fall victim to the unexpected spill of sunscreen or beverages, but having a strong and sturdy bag to hold all of the beach essentials is, well, essential. Cotton canvas is a favorite of mine, particularly those that lend a nautical feel.
Even though I’m naturally tan, I should wear more sunscreen. It is so important to wear sunscreen year-round, especially now that I’m a Florida resident. But, not just any old sunscreen. Most people incorrectly assume that the higher the SPF the better the protection. An SPF of 30 is perfectly fine, but I sometimes feel more comfortable with higher SPFs. Plus, I’ve found that I usually don’t apply enough of the spray sunscreen and sometimes end up with blotchy or spotty sunburns. Ouch.
3. Good Reads
Magazines and books go hand in hand with a beach day. I also have an e-book reader that allows me to be flexible with the books I carry. I use both a Nook and my iPad mini. I love my Isaac Mizrahi case because it has a built-in stand and it’s so elegant.
4. Water Bottle
It’s so important to hydrate when you’re in the sun. You’re sweating and the sun beating down on you doesn’t help. The times I don’t drink water I am utterly exhausted and usually crash on the couch when I get home. So, lesson learned, always pack a reusable bottle in your bag even if it’s empty. Seeing an empty bottle always prompts me to fill it.
5. Dove Dry Spray
You know those white deodorant clumps that appear out of nowhere in the heat of summer? Or worse yet, at the beach? Yeah, try taking a cute hand-on-hip picture with white chunks in your underarms. Definitely not cute.
I’m so excited to have partnered with Dove and discovering the luxury of Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant. It goes on instantly dry with no visible residue while providing 48-hours of odor and wetness protection. I love that Dove included their signature moisturizers for softer, smoother underarms.
I’ll admit, deodorant is not the first thing I think of when packing a beach bag, or even when I think of beauty products. I can’t tell you how many times I forget to pack deodorant on a trip. The convenience of having it in a spray means that it won’t melt in the Florida sun! I encourage you to #TryDry for yourself. Dove Dry Spray is the latest beauty trend and I think it’s here to stay!
6. Baby Powder
The secret to shaking off all the sand from your feet? Baby powder. A little bit goes a long way, too. So grab a travel size one at the store and you won’t have to hose off the sand and your sandals. I always slip and slide in wet sandals or flip-flops and I dislike the uneasy feeling that I might lose my balance and get hurt. Safety first.
7. Cute Accessories
A satisfying beach trip always ends with a beachside meal. I find that having a pretty spare set of sandals, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and a beach cover-up are perfect for transitioning from sunbathing to dining. Ok, so that was more than one item, but if they’re always in your bag you don’t ever have to gather them, right?
