Imagine if you could bask in luxury facials in the privacy of your own home. Now imagine if these facials ensured that you were toning your skin, helping produce collagen for firmness and stave away the development of fine lines and wrinkles. You would say you have found the fountain of youth. However, seeing an aesthetician on a regular basis is out of my means. But having anti-aging, skin toning facials at home? That is now within our reach.
They say youth is wasted on the young. Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m starting to understand. I have come to know more about myself, where I stand on ethical matters, and relationships. I’ve come to respect my body and genuinely take care of it in a healthy way. I don’t feel old as a 32 year old (almost 33!) but the inevitable finally took hold: I’m beginning to see the signs of aging.
All my life I prided myself on the fact that I have “good genes” and that I wouldn’t have to “worry about skin care” until I was much, much older. Well, life has a funny way of smacking you upside the head with a wake-up call because, all of a sudden, I’m starting to see expression lines around my eyes when I smile in pictures. Now I know why the Kardashians don’t smile, ever. I always thought these expression lines looked beautiful on people (I still kinda do) but on MY face? Hell to the no.
To think, I’ve been living in the South for 4.5 years now, walking the dogs twice a day and doing yard work…and not always wearing sunscreen. If only I could go back in time and spray myself down with sunscreen. The fine lines that would appear on my forehead only when I raised my eyebrows are now visible at all times. The lines under my eyes (that I’ve had all my life) are starting to get deeper, and my cheeks have lost some plumpness. This not the end of the world to me, but it is shocking how quickly my skin’s firmness is deteriorating thanks to the Florida sun.
When Conture offered to send me their skin toning system I was intrigued and giddy all at once. It makes sense that, if we take care of our bodies with exercise and toning our muscles makes skin firm…why not do the same for the skin on our face?
What is the Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System?
The Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System is an at-home, non-invasive cosmetic device that helps improve your skin’s elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is designed to treat the signs of aging quickly, effectively and painlessly.
The Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System utilizes a unique combination of isometric compression, which gently lifts and releases targeted skin zones, and low-frequency vibrations to safely and gently stimulate and tone dull, aged looking skin.
The device stimulates the skin with vibrations and by lifting and releasing the skin. It feels like gentle suctioning at the skin level, but you can feel the muscles underneath gently contracting, and it’s so easy to use! There are only three settings (face, mild and neck) so it’s pretty straightforward. What’s great about it is that you can use it with your current skincare routine or products, so you don’t need to go out and buy new serums just to use it (although the lifting works best with a serum on the skin–more on that later).
The Conture device is very light (my iPhone weighs more!) and is rechargeable so you’re not stuck near an outlet as you tone your skin. It comes with two soft silicone interchangeable heads. The long narrow one is for large areas such as your cheeks, and the smaller round one is for targeting small areas like the skin around your nose. The fact that you can remove them is important to me so that I can clean them.
Below are the two heads side-by-side for comparison.
I’ve only used the Conture device a few times, but I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far. The first time I used it was right before bed, after washing my face and using the Kinetic Treatment serum, an anti-wrinkle serum with the all-important skin-repairing peptides, which helped the Conture device glide effortlessly across my skin. The next morning, as I made monkey faces in the mirror, I noticed that the expression lines under one of my eyes were completely gone! At least for a few hours anyway, but that’s huge!
The user manual has a helpful graphic to show you where and how to focus treatment. Not pictured below is my favorite treatment area: brow toning. I’ve felt that my eyebrows have ever so slightly lost a little of their lift, and when I use the device to tone and stimulate those muscles, I feel relief. Kinda like stretching the day after a hard workout, the Conture tones my eyebrows, muscles I overuse every day. (As I’m typing this, my eyebrows are super tense, haha).
How to use the Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System
Make sure you fully charge the device before you begin. Mine came partially charged, but it was only after charging it that I realized it had more stamina when lifting the skin.
1. Start with cleansed skin. You want to make sure you remove all traces of makeup from your skin. Remember, the device will vibrate, lift and release your skin so you don’t want any residual makeup clogging your pores in the process.
2. Apply a pea-sized amount of the Kinetic Treatment Serum (or your current serum) on the area you are going to treat on your face or neck.
3. Gently tap the touchscreen of the Conture system and select the appropriate mode. It automatically turns on with the FACE setting, but if you will be toning around the delicate eye area I would tap the power button a second time for the MILD setting.
4. Make contact with the skin, making sure the entire surface of the silicon tip is on your skin without gaps. (The hardest area is the forehead and you might need to switch to the round head). Allow the device to pulse 3-5 times each time you move the device. Make sure you don’t treat any one area for a prolonged time as this can cause skin irritation.
Of course, it goes without saying that you want to avoid the delicate under eye area.
The the area I’m hoping to see the most improvement on is my décolleté. I’ve always had these rings around my upper chest, but now they seem more pronounced. I’m hoping that the Conture helps smooth them out. I’ve read that sleeping on your stomach worsens wrinkles on the décolleté, so in addition to the Conture treatments I also plan on buying a special silk pillow that forces me to sleep on my side. Clogged pores along the jaw line is another common pillow “injury.” Guess it’s time for silk pillowcases!
I feel like this review got a little too wordy, so I’ll finish up by saying that I am enjoying using Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System and will continue with my regular daily treatments. Check back for my thoughts after one month of daily treatments 2-3 months to share any progress on my décolleté and my skin’s tone, but so far I’m very happy with my daily med spa massages!
