There once was a woman…a recently married woman…whom we will call Lisette, who received a call from an old friend inviting her to dinner.
‘Luke’ was a tall, attractive, debonair of a young man with blue eyes, dark locks and a million-dollar smile. If those eyes were to be piercing blue, instead of their warm nature, one could say he was a modern day Don Giovanni. But as it was, his blue eyes were kind and inviting, and had a twinkle of mischief to them that always left you wondering. He was easy on the eyes for sure, something that Lisette certainly appreciated. Of course, she thought, and accepted his dinner invitation.
Lisette and Luke met that night for dinner. She planned her outfit, knowing that Luke has a penchant for haute couture, and she wasn’t going to disappoint. When they met, it was clear from his smile that Lisette’s coquettish outfit was very much appreciated by Luke. They took their seats, and began their night. As the wine flowed, so did conversation. The more wine flowed, the more comfortable they were with one another. From a distance, it appeared these two had a secret tryst. All smiles, animated hands in conversation. Smiles all around.
The attractive pair was so involved in their conversation that they did not notice an acquaintance of Lisette’s husband sitting a few tables over. After a few minutes of observation, this acquaintance began to suspect of his friend’s wife. As Lisette and Luke got up to leave and part ways, the acquaintance stopped them to greet them.
Lisette candidly greeted the acquaintance and introduced him to Luke. She noticed that the acquaintance seemed nervous, but thought nothing of it, as she knew this man was a little odd. In a warm embrace followed by a kiss on the cheek she bid adieu to Luke and went home to her husband.
When she arrived home her husband was waiting for her on the couch, a knowing smile creeping across his lips. They kissed hello, and he asked her, “How was dinner with Luke?”
“Oh lovely, as always,” she said. “What did you do?”
“Oh, you know, the usual. But I received an interesting call from one of the guys I played softball with.”
Intrigued, Lisette asked “What about?”
With a smirk, her husband replied, “He called me to give me a ‘heads up’ about you having dinner with another man.”
Lisette’s face dimmed. “He what?”
“Apparently you had a very good time with Luke tonight, because he called me to let me know you were out with another man.”
Lisette swallowed back something bitter and asked, “What did you say to him?”
Her husband laughed. “I said, ‘Dude, don’t worry about it. Luke would be more interested in you than he would ever be in my wife.’ He didn’t get it, so I had to tell him ‘Dude, really, it’s okay. He’s gay.'”
“What an ass.”
Relief fell over Lisette as she laughed along with her husband.
“When will people learn to mind their own business?” she wondered as she shook her head.
And with that, Lisette and her husband went on to enjoy a nightcap before bed.
