Want to know what is one of my favorite perks of owning a blog? Revamping the look of my “surroundings” at the drop of a hat.
Without making a trip to Target or HomeGoods with (and the insanity of wanting all the cute things) I can redecorate the blog to reflect my current penchants. I’m so glad marble is a trend nowadays. It’s classic and clean, and provides the perfect backdrop for photos. My parents had marble-top tables since the early 90s, and the new love for marble, ironically, brings back nostalgia. I just knew I had to bring marble into the mix!
Perhaps it’s the summertime. Perhaps it’s that I’m a Florida resident. I’m not sure, but besides marble the only other element I wanted in this blog redesign was the ocean. After lots of introspect and looking back at the color palettes I’m drawn to in home decor, light blues and light greys win, hands down. While I love pink and leopard and gold, I’ve slowly surrounded myself with with the color palette of the ocean, so I knew that a light blue, sea glass color had to ground the new look.
It embarrasses me to admit this, but it’s been years since I updated my About page. I mean, I still had Georgia as our state of residence so I knew I had to do something. I know I’m not alone when I say that writing an about page is about as awkward as it gets. You want it to reflect your personality, yet be professional. Several of my blog design clients have also struggled with what they put on an About page. I usually lean towards the less is more mantra, but this time I threw that out the window.
Another thing that I’ve been drawn to in stores lately are geometric shapes. I gathered a few of my favorites and captured them in yummy hexagons. Flowers, coffee, music, the ocean, mojitos, wine and cheese…these are just a few of my favorite things!
I love simple and clean, and I think this new look is just that. I love how a new design inspires you when you’re having a dry spell, or in my case, motivates you to sit down and write when life is just so busy.
